Well, everyone came in last night around 2 am Rachel, Stephen, Abby and David flew Air India. Which proved to be quiet an experience of frustration. Thankfully, after several delays and miscommunication we are all here ! After a wonderful brunch this morning we sat down to plan the rest of our travels. The next four weeks will fly by and we are just starting to realize that the much anticipated Europe trip is finally here.
Amazing! Flying from Jerusalem has allot brought many ideas of contrast into my mind. The moment I began to fly over Rome I started to notice many differences. The parched land of Judea looks pitiful next to the summer rains of Rome. The great Tiber river and makes our little Gihon spring look like a rhe a great dam vs a drinking water fountain. Living water anyone? : )
I m realizing that this will be a great trip for the writing project i m working on and that it has already started to give me perspective, provoke questions, and answer some. We saw the Arch of Titus today and I saw the relief depicting the conquest of Jerusalem and the Jewish slaves hoisting the menorah on their shoulders remembering that its place of honor in the Temple was no more. I thought of the newly made Menorah that stands in the Jewish Quarter today and thought about the destruction of Jerusalem again.
Another contrast from Jerusalem was the very flat streets the city was so simple to navigate as we walked to and fro hardly breaking a sweat. Easy hills and smooth valleys give way to magnificient pieces of history at every turn. The Colosseum stands as a memorial to its bloody history, and to the rauceous way of the Romans from long ago. So much to think about! (Oh, and we had some Gellato) Rach found a deal for 2 Euros and a very hefty portion of gellato was shared with all. Our first day in Rome has been a wonderful vacation so far! We hope to document our time here with video clips, pictures, and more written updates...becca

Love the blog. Will add it to my list. Keep up with the writing, thinking, asking questions (audibly and silently) and taking pictures.
